Neurovascular Island Flaps
With some flaps, sensory or motor nerves can be mobilized in addition to nutrient vessels. For example, authors have transferred neurovascular island flaps from around the mouth for use in lip reconstruction (Karapandzic 1974; Weerda 1983 a, b; Remmert et al. 1994; Figs. 6.17, 6.29, and 12.1).
