Dorsalis Pedis Flap

This is a thin sensate fasciocutaneous flap from the dorsum of the foot. It is based on the dorsalis pedis artery, which originate from anterior tibial artery and its venae comitantes.25 The length of the pedicle is 6 to 10 cm and the diameter of the artery is 2-3 mm. The nerve supply comes form the branches of deep and superficial peroneal nerves. The size of the flap is 6 x 10 cm2 and it can be raised as a skin flap alone or in combination with the second metatarsal bone as an osteocutaneous flap or in combination with 1st and 2nd toe transfer26 (Fig. 8.4).
