Stabilization of PVC Pipes

Polyvinyl chloride cannot be processed alone without having an appropriate heat stabilizer, lubricants, co-stabilizers, and processing aids. PVC pipes used in outdoor applications are usually stabilized by either of the three types of stabilization systems:

1. Mixed-metal stabilizers

2. Lead (Pb)-based heat stabilizers

3. Organotin stabilizers

The combination of appropriate thermal stabilizers with adequate pigments provide a high level of weathering resistance to PVC products [54]. Titanium dioxide pigment loading up to 5-12 wt% can be used to achieve longer lifetime of the exposed products.
