Kaposis sarcoma

This tumour was first described in 1872. Prior to 1981 most cases occurred in elderly Italian/Jewish men or African children. It very rarely involved periocular structures prior to AIDS but is now a relatively common manifestation of AIDS.

Clinical features

Lesions tend to be violaceous in colour (Figure 6.8).The conjunctiva may be diffusely involved and simulate inflammation.
