Advantages

The advantages of this approach are that the condition of surface is very well understood throughout the experimental procedure. This enables sto-ichiometries of interactions to be investigated and rapid optimisation of the protocol to be undertaken where necessary. It also enables variations in the quality of the materials used to be analysed and taken into account when considering the experiment as a whole.
