TOF-SIMS is used to analyze the characterization, distribution, conformation, and orientation of proteins on substrates. TOF-SIMS analysis techniques have been applied to a certain extent to the surface and interface investigation ofbio-devices such as biosensors and implant materials. Since these protein analysis TOF-SIMS techniques are only just being developed, the use of some of them is currently limited. In the near future, TOF-SIMS techniques will provide the most important information on proteins at solid-liquid interfaces. In this article we describe the latest examples of application of TOF-SIMS to the evaluation of proteins on bio-devices.
