the colonic J-pouch is not in the creation of a larger neorectal reservoir but, rather, may be related to decreased motility . Therefore a new surgical concept for rectal replacement is the transverse colo-plasty pouch . The early functional outcome is favourable and can be compared to other colonic reservoirs. The concept of reducing early dysfunction seen after straight colo-anal anastomosis and avoiding long-term problems of pouch evacuation is supported by more recent findings .
